Coming back from New York was a bit of a downer...until I opened the door to my house and was like...ahhh home.
Complaints of the condition of the house I found it in will not be reflected as it will become large and in charge! BLAH! It will however, include a lost drafting pencil, garbage pileup and dirty dishes.
As for the trip itself! Fabulous! I'm still shocked I took a trip with friends, not trying to be stereotypical, but it is such an "asian" thing to do...to add to stereotype, i did it with asians.
Thursday...
-I didn't sleep all night so as not to miss my train. I imed with a weird friend for four hours, mostly about the subtleties of human psychology. Then went to catch the train.
-Train ride was pretty awful though since I had to sit next to a couple of heavy smokers with oxygen tanks and very scratchy voices. I tried to mind my own business and watch a movie on my laptop, but they got interested and talked to me. My movies were a bit R or X-rated...not porn! But Lady Vengeance and Ghost in the Shell...Urgh...so i had to sleep. I'm a good sleeper, slept through most of the ride.
-Got to Penn Station and James found me. The search for Liz took longer, but we found each other! Yea! Went to find food...as i was starved after a ten hour ride with a bag of chips. Tessa was late and so we went to this Japanese Deli where we bought onigiri and a ball soda. I opened the ball soda and it exploded all over the cashier and myself...way to go, first night in NYC.
-Met up with Tessa and went to a Japanese rice styled restaurant. Really good! Then we walked around the city aimlessly...finally decided to Karaoke! Having never done it before, i was nervous and excited. Its a whole lot of fun! Especially singing with other people.
-Finally, at around 2am i think we got home. By home, i mean James place -_- I wanted to meet his parents but it was late lol. Bedded
Friday...
-Woke up and met James' parents! So nice couple! From what i see anyway. Also my computer died. Me and James left to go see the art galleries on Chelsea at around 11am.
-Chelsea galleries were....okay. Very roomy, not much work, but....I...can't seem to say anything nice about it! I was a little repulsed by some of the work there. Maybe its just that i don't get it, but now i really honest to God DON'T GET IT!! Even the more realistic works I didn't like! I mean I get it, but so what? You're not showing me anything that hasn't been done before, the most i can say is that at least your not trying to be crazy and abstract! Can someone please explain the meaning of art to me?
Ahem, aside from my outburst above, it was an experience. Also we went on this skyward park area which was really a railroad track remodeled with nature and grass. It was very pleasant. Me and James started counting the number of female Asian with male Caucasians. I think we got to fifteen?
Went to Don Giovanni's for lunch as I insisted on eating a New York styled pizza. Pretty good.
-Liz finally there and we hung out for about an hour before going to this gelato place where we got gelato. An old lady started to sit next to us and completely grossed Liz out. So we left, that was funny lol.
-Went to Koreatown for dinner at around six or seven. Ended up at a Pho 32 restaurant where Liz and James overestimated the hot sauce and ladled it on. Delicious.
-Picked up David from airport where he missed his first flight and so the late pickup.
-Home and bedded.
Saturday...big day.
-Got up super early at 8am? James mom made us breakfast and we all headed out to Coney Island. Liz wasn't feeling well so she didn't come -__-....TT_TT so sad. But the group was me, James, David and Vivian.
-Got to Coney Island early and went to Nathans hot dog place to prepare ourselves for the hot dog eating contest. SUPER CROWDED!!! OMG ESPN was there filming the whole thing. After waiting around things started to happen and we meandered our way into the crowd trying to vie for good space. In the end we all got separated. I used my feminine ways to get a close up, though it meant standing next to a group of rowdy frat boys. The winner was Joey Chestnut who ate 68 hot dogs in 12 minutes!! Second was Kobyashi, with 65...i was rooting for him. Exciting!
-Next we went to the beach for some summer fun! though all of us besides James bought a swimsuit we still went in the water, got wet and played frizzbee. James buried Vivian and my feet in the sand in a huge pile. And we in vengeance gave him a mermaid tail. Sadly we were all burned except for Vivian who was smart enough to put on sunscreen.
-Next it was back to Koreatown to meet more people for dinner. Not having eaten anything since breakfast we were all really hungry. Ended up at Seoul Garden, great Korean food! Yin Lin and Marc Villaneoue came to join and we had a massive feast for a small army. I abandoned my vegetarian ways and chowed down on meat. Delicious fabulous mouth watering meat...my only explanation is that New York meat is worth getting fat for, Pittsburgh's is not.
-Fireworks came next! we walked to the pier by the Hudson River among the masses of people. Seriously huge crowd! we all waited till 9:25 for the fireworks to start and was not disappointed. Absolutely stunning! the most amazing fireworks show i have ever seen! It had to be as it was the Hudson River's 400th anniversary. 40,000 fireworks that night in 30 minutes!
-Decided to go Karaoke after fireworks but stopped at Red Mango for dessert. There we ran into classmate Eugene Kang!! Imagine that! Convinced him to come sing with us, and as he seemed to think we were lucky he agreed!
-Karaoked into the night, three straight hours at this place Duet. I got a Long Island Iced Tea and was very very happy lol too happy i suppose.
-Finally decided to go home. To top off the night we saw large rats in the subway and a man vomitting violently...Got home at around 3am. Pretty eventful eh?
Sunday...
-Got up breakfasted on fried rice and coffee.
-Went to St Marks to meet more people and eat (today would be the rlaxing day). Went to a half off sushi place!! delicious as usual. Then to Japanese bakery where i bought some cakes for everyone.
-The Met came next where we met Liz as she felt better. Did some sketching and relaxed. The museum changes in two years!
-Schenely Park next! where we just hung out for hours looking at scenery and ducks and ate cakes. Also we sketched David and all had our own renditions of him in the end. Prostitute. Suave and Chinese emperor lol. It was quite perfect...
-After a hurried goodbye to Vivian we fast tracked ourselves to a Shanghai Joe's! in Midtown where the expensive one is. I mean we just had to have thos dragon dumplings!!! That was all we wanted! And we got them.
-Home
Sunday...
-Got up and went to Dim Sung place i think it was the Jade Asian Restaurant. Said goodbye to people and packed our bags and left in Jame's car.
-Went to Jersey so i could say goodbye to my Dad. He wasn't there, so I gave the boys a tour. They were impressed, very much so it seemed. Lots of pictures were taken and the floorplan was mapped out. haha. My sister was there. Eww. I got some clothes and collected some stuff and we were back on our way to Pittsburgh.
For those of you who bothered to read this, I appreciate it, though this was mostly for my benefit to not forget!
